Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his house’s orders to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party access areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect learning which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
